Pak to try youngsters in dead rubber

Auckland: Pakistan won the ODI series against New Zealand on Thursday by beating the hosts in the fifth ODI and will look to play youngsters Asad Shafiq and Abdul Rehman in their last ODI on Saturday, said team coach Waqar Younis.

"In the final match, we might give outings to Asad Shafiq and Abdul Rehman," said Waqar on the eve of their last ODI ahead of the World Cup.

Pakistan lead 3-1 in the six-match series, which had the second ODI washed out due to rain, and have the liberty to try out a different combination having sealed series win on Thursday when Ahmed Shehzad's century grounded New Zealand.

But Waqar made it clear that Pakistan won't risk playing their leading off-spinner Saeed Ajmal, who has been nursing a finger injury.

"We are not playing Saeed Ajmal since he has a finger injury and we didn't want to take any risks with him so close to the World Cup," said Waqar.
