Australia pacer Ryan Harris is ruled out for up to two months following an hamstring injury on the final day of the fifth Ashes Test.
The 33-year-old Queensland man had undergone scans on Thursday afternoon which revealed that it would take up to two months for him to recover.
"Ryan Harris injured his right hamstring during the latter part of the second innings of the 5th Ashes Test. He had to leave the field and did not return to the game as he was unable to bowl. He was assessed after arriving back in Australia today and is expected to be unavailable to play for the next 6-8 weeks," Cricket Australia (CA) said in a statement.
Harris was the stand-out bowler for Australia in the recently concluded Ashes series, taking 24 wickets at an average of 20 in four Tests. Australia lost the series 3-0.
Harris had been hit hard by knee, ankle, shoulder and hip injuries since he made his Test debut in 2010. He was expected to represent Brisbane Heat in the upcoming Champions League T20 competition in September after his stint at the IPL 6 was cut short by an Achilles injury.
The latest injury has also put doubts over his participation in the return leg of the Ashes Down Under which will begin in November.
