Swann, Tredwell have WI in a spin

Man of the match James Tredwell took 4/48 and Graeme Swann impressed yet again with figures of 3/36.

New Delhi: Spin twins Graeme Swann and James Tredwell gave their team a new lease of life as England came from behind to upstage the West Indies by 18 runs in a World Cup Group B clash at Chennai on Thursday.

Man of the match Tredwell took 4/48 and Swann impressed yet again with figures of 3/36 as the Poms held their nerve when it mattered most to stay alive in the competition.

Chris Gayle smashed 43 off 21 balls at the top of the order when England turned to off spinner Tredwell who delivered in style by dismissing Gayle, Devon Smith and Darren Bravo as the Windies were three down with 91 on the board.

Ramnaresh Sarwan and Kieron Pollard then consolidated the innings and just when Pollard threatened to take the game away from England, Swann struck as the West Indies lost their 6th wicket.

Andre Russell coming in at number eight took the attack to the opposition and it seemed that the Windies would be home and dry before Tredwell sent him back just in the nick of time for England.

Swann then got the all important wicket of Sarwan and followed it up by getting rid of Kemar Roach as West Indies lost their ninth wicket.

It was all over soon afterwards as Suleiman Benn was run out and England lived up to their reputation of providing thrilling contests in the 10th ICC World Cup.
