T20 WC: Australia beat India by 7 wkts

Australian skipper Alex Blackwell takes her side to the final of the Women\'s World T20.

Gros Islet, St Lucia: Australian skipper Alex Blackwell's 61 off 49 balls send the Indian eves packing in the semi-final of the Women's World T20 on Thursday. Chasing 120, Australia reached home comfortably with seven balls to spare.

Blackwell smashed eight fours to power the seven-wicket win after Jhulan Goswami struck early for India by snaring Elyse Villani for no score in the first over of the Australian chase.

Shelly Nitschke (22) and Leah Poulton (30) made significant contributions in the chase.

Earlier, a disciplined Australian bowling performance limited India to 119 for 5.

India never got going after a slow start that saw tournament's highest scorer Mithali Raj falling for 16 off 18 balls.

Poonam Raut anchored the Indian innings with a steady 44 off 51, including three boundaries, before she fell in the 17th over.

Raut added an important 57 with Harmanpreet Kaur (24 off 27). But after a decent base, an Ellyse Perry over saw three wickets go down. Kaur was run-out by a smart piece of fielding by the bowler. Skipper Jhulan Goswami, who promoted herself up the order, fell off her first ball when her counterpart Alex Blackwell threw the stumps down.

Rumeli Dhar (12 off 9) and Amita Sharma (17 off 11) upped the ante at the death but the 120-run target was never going to be enough for the strong Aussie batting.
