Karachi: Young Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal will miss the limited-overs series of the upcoming tour to Zimbabwe, following an illness while playing in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League.
According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, Akmal, who also donned the wicketkeeper's gloves for the side in the recent tour to the West Indies, is said to have fainted and spent a night at hospital.
The PCB has asked the 23-year-old to return to Pakistan so that he can get further treatment. Wicketkeeper batsman Sarfraz Ahmed has been named as Akmal's replacement.
"He has immediately been called back," the PCB said in a statement.
"He will undergo a complete medical examination to reassess the level of his fitness. Meanwhile, the National Selection Committee has proposed the name of Sarfraz Ahmad as his replacement for Pakistan's ODI and T20 squads for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe," it added.
