The Delhi coach said UP were disciplined in all three departments and that showed in their performance.
Ghaziabad: Delhi head coach Vijay Dahiya has accepted that Uttar Pradesh, in their six-wicket win over his team, beat them in all the departments of the game and promised that his team will show a better performance in its next game against Odisha, starting November 9.
“It’s fair to say that they [UP] beat us in all three department of the game. They were more disciplined in their approach and it showed in their performance,” Dahiya said, “But our performance will definitely improve in the next game.”
Delhi also said that the absence of star players – Delhi skipper Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli and Ishant Sharma, who all have been selected for the first Test against England starting November 15 in Ahmedabad – will not have a huge impact on the team and that he has enough players as back-up for the long Ranji Trophy season ahead.
"It is always an advantage having the likes of Sehwag, Gambhir and Kohli in the team but we have a good middle-order that we can depend on. Mithun Manhas and Puneet Bisht have looked very good. We have the back-up," said Dahiya after the fourth day’s play.
The Delhi coach said the return of Shikhar Dhawan, who recently got married and is currently playing for Mumbai A against England XI in a practice match in Mumbai, will also add to the strength of the side. "Importantly, Shikhar Dhawan will also be back for us for the upcoming matches and he has been very consistent so far and performing well. So with Sehwag and others going away, I don't think it will matter much. We have good enough back-up."
