India's ground fielding was otherwise sharp, but one of their most senior players was a let-down. In the tenth over of Australia's innings, Zaheer Khan fumbled on the third man boundary to allow a four. Running a long way along the boundary, Zaheer tried to stop a cut from Matthew Wade. Just as it appeared he had done well to reach the ball, Zaheer tumbled and hit the ground with an ungainly thud and allowed the ball slip through his grasp to make contact with the boundary.
Later, during the 17th over, Zaheer was fielding at mid-off when he made an elementary fielding error. The Indians were putting pressure on a scratchy Ricky Ponting, who had scored one run off 11 deliveries. When Ponting pushed a delivery from Irfan Pathan straight to Zaheer it appeared a simple stop, except a lethargic Zaheer let the ball go through his legs and Ponting got an easy single.
