Colombo: At least twelve LTTE militants were killed in heavy fighting between Sri Lankan security forces and the Tamil Tiger rebels in Sri Lanka's embattled north, the defence ministry said on Friday.
In North-Western Mannar, clashes between security forces and Tamil Tigers on Friday left three rebels dead, it said, adding in another incidents at North-Eastern Welioya two Tiger cadres were gunned down at Janakpura.
While one militant was killed in Navakullam in Northern Vavuniya, two rebels were killed in weliyoa in separate incidents yesterday, it said in a statement. Meanwhile, in a fierce gun battle, a total of 10 LTTE militants were injured yesterday at north of Adampan in Eastern Sri Lanka, the Media Centre for National Security said.
As many as four militants were killed and another injured when troops launched an attack and destroyed a LTTE bunker in Kallikulam in Vavuniya yesterday, it said, adding four soldiers were reported injured in the attack.
In Eastern Ampara, militants exploded a claymore mine targeting a Special Task Force, it said, adding one officer sustained injuries in the attack.
