Mumbai: A 15-month-old infant died in a tragic accident in Mumbai on Sunday as a result of injuries received when a car rammed into her house in the wee hours of the morning.

15-month-old Sanya Chavan died in a tragic accident at around 10.30 pm Sunday night, when a Ford Ikon rammed into the Chavan's apartment in Vile Parle suburb of Mumbai. The car hit a pole and then crashed into the house injuring the domestic help who was playing with the infant.

Sanya's father Manoj Chavan said, "The car came on to the footsteps of the house, and she got caught between the steps and the bumper of the car so her back was fractured and there was internal bleeding."

Immediately following the incident, the Police arrested the driver — 28-year-old Dr Suresh Kulkarni, a doctor working with KEM hospital in central Mumbai. According to the FIR Kulkarni was a learner behind the wheels who lost control and was driving without a license.

For Manoj Chavhan — a small time property consultant, meeting the Rs 1.5 lakh hospital bill, was another ordeal. But finally it was after the hospital waived off a good part of the expense that the desolate parents could take Sanya's dead body home.

However all this is little consolation for Sanya's grief stricken parents who don't quite know how to handle the tragedy.
