New Delhi: Three Kanwarias were killed and five hurt late on Thursday night in a road accident in Allahabad district.

The accident occurred in the Hanumanganj area, when a truck reportedly lost balance and crushed the pilgrims. Angry pilgrims set a truck on fire in front of the Hanumanganj police outpost and blocked roads in the area.

Lakhs of Kanwaria pilgrims visit the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi every year during the month of Shravan in the Hindu calendar.

Earlier this week, speeding truck mowed down five Kanwarias near Manesar in Haryana The Kanwarias, who are devotees of Lord Shiva, were returning from their annual pilgrimage to the shores of the Ganges when the accident occurred.
