Mumbai: Offbeat director Nagesh Kukunoor is now trying his hand at romantic comedy.

His new film Bombay to Bangkok will explore the love story of an Indian cook and a Thai masseuse, and whether or not that love transcends language barriers.

Said the director, “Bombay to Bangkok is a film about Shankar, a cook, who gets in trouble with a mafia. He doesn’t know that it is the mafia and runs to Bangkok where he falls in love with a maasage parlour girl."

Nagesh, who has proved his mettle in offbeat films, is now trying his hand at different genres from romance to thriller. So from doing one film in a few months to doing three star-studded affairs in one go, Nagesh is a busy man these days.

"I have always wanted to dabble in all kinds of genres and none of my films have fallen into the same category. As a movie buff and also as a director I love all kids of genres," says Nagesh.

Interestingly, this maverick filmmaker once used to be an environment consultant in the US. It wasn’t much of a surprise when he revealed his pet project:

"I had thought of making a film with environmental cause as it has a bit of my past in it. So I can try to do something with it."

That’s called combining creativity with a cause.
