AIIMS top doc sacked for operation botch up

New Delhi: A top doctor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences has been removed from his post. Professor A Sampath Kumar, the head of cardio-thoracic and vascular surgery at AIIMS, has been charged with medical negligence.
Kumar botched up an an operation he conducted on a 12-year-old boy. He reportedly blocked the wrong artery of the boy leading to renal failure and ultimately, death.
Kumar has been removed from his post in AIIMS with immediate effect. "A committee under the chairmanship of Rajeev Tandon has been formed to look into the matter The committee has to submit a report in two weeks.
He has been removed from the chief of Cardio Thoracic and Cardio Vascular Centre," AIIMS Public Relations Officer, Shakti Gupta, said.
