Ajit Singh searches for new friends

EYE ON APRIL: RLD leader Ajit Singh claims his party is strong in Western UP.
New Delhi: Rashtriya Loktantrik Dal (RLD) leader Ajit Singh walked out of the UP government on Tuesday and now he is searching for a new alliance before polls in April.
His immediate focus seems to be the Assembly’s special session on January 18. Singh has the Congress or the BJP as options for an alliance but he is not talking to either party right now.
Interestingly, his choice seems to be to former Prime Minister V P Singh’s combine Jan Morcha. Singh met CPI leader A B Bardhan recently but the Left leader denied that Singh was joining in.
"This is just a preliminary meeting, and besides Singh is an old friend," said Bardhan.
The Jan Morcha is the best and most convenient political plank because it offers Singh a lot of leeway. Nothing is certain as yet, but Singh can go to the elections with this alliance and then choose his post-poll partners.
In UP's multiparty politics, he would rather be a kingmaker especially with the kind of strength he claims to have in western Uttar Pradesh.
“Jan Morcha is a political party, but let us see. Political equations in UP are changing,” said Singh. The Jan Morch is more than happy to accommodate him.
Jan Morcha spokesperson Vipin Malik said there was a “synergy developing” with Singh.
