SPREADING AWARENESS: The initiative hopes to help 87,000 children in the coming year.
Mumbai: Actresses Konkona Sen Sharma and Soha Ali Khan are not only busy endorsing products and acting in films, but the two have also taken time out to endorse a good cause of propagating primary education.
Tuesday saw the two come together in Mumbai to support the cause of education for the marginalised as part of P&G's social responsibility programme.
"Education is an end in itself. I studied history, I may not use history dates when I act in front of the camera, but what I've learnt the comprehensive skills," says Soha.
"The ability to research, the ability to read, the ability to write, the ability to converse with all of you with a certain amount of confidence and ability to put forward my ideas are all because of my education. And that is what empowers me to do a number of things," she adds.
Konkona also feels that primary education is the basic footing in life that all children have a right to.
"We are not talking about higher education, I myself am only a college graduate. But I think we are talking about primary education as a basic right for children," she says.
Though the actresses refused to talk about their films, they did comment on the unfortunate need to grab attention for a good cause through celebrities.
"Personally I think it's sad that celebrities have to be involved just to reach to the people. I think celebrities definitely do add some importance to the cause as they can reach out to people," says Konkona.
"I think people should be interested in the kind of cause in any case because it's about the education of the children of our country," she adds.
Unlike any of the actresses' films, this initiative hopes to help 87,000 children in the coming year, which is something Konkana, and Soha are proud to be a part of.
