New Delhi: The man of the moment is undoubtedly Samajwadi Party (SP) General Secretary Amar Singh. Once accused of gate crashing Sonia Gandhi's party, today he is the man who is scripting a new equation.

There are many faces of Amar Singh. He is the younger brother of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan and SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav.

From film sets to political war rooms Amar Singh is fast becoming India's ultimate chameleon. The socialite socialist changes colours frequently and almost brazenly.

"I cannot say that Sonia Gandhi is my friend," Amar Singh had said a few days ago. He also added, "It will not be prudent to say that we are neither friends. I will not be proper to say we are enemies."

Those who know him personally draw comparisons between him and the late Pramod Mahajan of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Both have been key troubleshooters, fund raiser and politico all rolled into one.

Within the SP, many envy him for his importance but Mulayam cannot stay without him.

Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai take him for a red carpet journey to Cannes. And top corporates consider him to be a close aide. So does it matter what politics he chooses to identify with?

Whether its political opportunism or smart politics, Amar Singh has indeed come a long way. Now as he gets set to taste power once again at the Centre, he will have his target set - Mission Control Mayawati in Uttar Pradesh. After all not for nothing is Amar Singh, man for all seasons.
