New Delhi: Protests over the transfer of forestland to the SASB in Jammu & Kashmir have reached New Delhi.
On Saturday, Bajrang Dal activists, who are supporting the transfer, attacked the Jammu & Kashmir House in the Capital.
When the attack took place, J&K Finance Minister, Tariq Karra, was on the premises.
In the Valley, the protests kept everything shut for the sixth day running. The police fired tear gas shells on Saturday morning to disperse the stone-pelting youth in Srinagar.
Jammu & Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Md Yasin Malik was among the protestors who were injured in Lal Chowk while the police were trying to break up the mob.
Police are deployed at various areas of Srinagar and clashes have been reported from Maisuma, Gowkadal, Hawal, Soura and Alamgari-bazar areas.
The pressure is building on the Chief Minister to take a decision. Coalition partners in the Congress-led government in Srinagar, the PDP, has threatened to withdraw support within three days if the land deal is not reversed.
Meanwhile, the government also replaced Governor's Principal Secretary Arun Kumar after an inquiry found him guilty of transgressing his mandate during a press conference last week.
Kumar is also the CEO of Sri Amarnath Shrine Board and will be replaced by senior Indian Administrative Service officer SL Bhat, who is presently serving as resident commissioner in Delhi.
Bharat Bhushan Vyas will officiate as Governor's Principal Secretary till Bhat is relieved of charges in Delhi.
Kashmir's mainstream parties are putting pressure on Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to revoke land allotment to the Amarnath shrine board.
Authorities on Friday suspended the Amarnath yatra from Jammu in view of the continued strike in Kashmir Valley over transfer of forest land. The devotees were not allowed to proceed from Bhagwati Nagar base camp to the Amarnath cave shrine of Lord Shiva in the Kashmir Himalayas, official sources said.
The step has been taken as a precautionary measure for ensuring safety of pilgrims as protests over the land transfer issue were continuing in the valley for the last few days, they said. This is the third time the pilgrimage has been stopped from the base camp ever since its commencement on June 17.
The yatra was suspended on June 20 due to bad weather and heavy rains making the routes leading to the hill temple dangerous. It was again suspended on June 25 due to a heavy rush at Nunwan and Baltal base camps in Kashmir.
