New Delhi: The Delhi police crime branch has stated in court that apart from Babubhai Katara, they had sufficient evidence against four other MPs in the fake passport racket. As for Katara, he has been sent to judicial custody till May 4.
The ongoing investigations in the fake passport scam took another turn when officials confirmed they had ample evidence to pin MPs Mohammed Tahir Khan, Mitrasen Yadav, Ashok Rawat and Ramswarup Koli.
Their names had come up earlier during interrogation of six people who have been arrested so far. And the court said if found guilty, the police should not feel threatened by their status.
Babubhai Katara has already been implicated in the racket and was today sent to Tihar jail till May 4. With the crime branch's latest claim, the focus shifts to the other MPs, who have been denying all allegations so far.
Interestingly, MP Ramswarup Koli has claimed to have lost his diplomatic passport, however surprisingly, so far, no missing passport report has been recovered by the investigators.
The police had earlier sent notices to these MPs asking them to assist in investigations, but responses were lukewarm as they claimed to be busy with the ongoing UP elections.
However, if the police remain unsatisfied with their excuses, warrants could also be issued.
