New Delhi: The striking junior doctors in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday partially called off the 10-day strike. The Post Graduate doctors are to attend emergency services.

Earlier in the day, junior doctors staged a dharna outside the governor's residence. They also blocked the road in front of the Raj Bhavan.

Nearly 4,000 junior doctors from across nine government hospitals in Andhra Pradesh have been on a strike for past ten days.

They are protesting the government's decision to increase inhouse quota in PG courses in Andhra Pradesh.

The junior doctors said apart from the grace marks, the senior doctors also enjoy the advantage of 30 to 50 per cent reservation in these exams.

Taking serious note of the situation, the Andhra Pradesh High Court had on Friday threatened to withdraw the licences of striking doctors if they did not call off the strike by April 18.

The court has also directed the state government to cancel the degrees of the junior doctors if they don't adhere to the court orders.

Sources say junior doctors in Andhra Pradesh are likely to call off their 10-day strike.
