Mumbai: Another Indian has been kidnapped in Afghanistan. This time, it is a Mumbai-based engineer whose family's future is now uncertain.

Naeem, who has been abducted along with a Nepalese national, was the only bread earner of his family of three children. Ever since Naeem's abduction has been reported, life has been uncertain for his wife and ageing parents-in-law.

“I pray to God that the kidnappers are merciful and release my son-in-law,” said Naeem’s father-in-law, Munir Ahmed

“We request the Government to do something. We also appeal to our countrymen to do something about him,” said a tearful Nisar Ahmed, Naeem’s uncle.

It was in pursuit of better livelihood that the 39-year-old electrical engineer went to Afghanistan.

Naeem was on contract with a Kabul Based company, HED. Since the past four years he has been in Afghanistan. He left Herat in January and was to return home in June. But for the last 48 hours his inconsolable family and friends have been unsuccessfully been trying to get in touch with the company in Kabul.

“We are in Mumbai; had we been in Delhi, we could have talked to someone in the Government. We just don’t know what we can do,” Naeem’s friend Mushtaq bemoans.

But even with the Government’s intervention, there is very little that the family can do but wait for the kidnappers to make their next move. Till then, prayers are their only ray of hope.
