Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President Keshava Rao is well-known for fiery speeches against erring political opponents.
But now, this veteran Congress leader finds himself on the receiving end. Rao has been forced to resign after his son K Venkat Rao was implicated in a murder case.
"In tune with my sensitivity and also to avoid any possible criticism that my party office has cast any undue influence in the investigation, I would rather quit, decided to quit to see that the investigations are impartial," said Rao.
Venkat, a real estate businessman, allegedly shot his business partner Prashant Reddy at his Banjara Hills residence on Sunday.
Venkat's wife claims Prashant took Venkat's revolver and killed himself. But Prashant's parents say he was murdered.
"He was not a man who would commit suicide. He was very strong and brave,” said Prashant's father Raghavendera Reddy.
Venkat was arrested on Monday. The case has now been handed over to the CID.
CID officials say they will make a statement only after interrogating Venkat.
Meanwhile, the Congress High Command is yet to decide on Keshav Rao's resignation.
The case has given more ammunition for the Opposition to target the Congress-led state government.
