New Delhi: The ongoing economic blockade in Jammu and Kashmir is taking a toll on apple farmers.

This year's crop is rotting away from lack of transport to take the fruits to the market.

Constant shutdowns and curfews have hit transportation, and the growers can no longer take their crop to the market.

And the overall tense situation has deterred customers from coming to them. Compounding the problem are bad roads, which make regular business almost impossible.

"This year we are facing a lot of problem due to the tension prevailing in the region. Even customers who used to come to us have not turned up because of the tense situation. If it goes on, then all our crops will be rotten," said an apple grower, Qayoom Mir.

Home Minister Shivraj Patil has said that they have no objection to exporting fruits to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).

"We have no objection to exporting fruits to PoK. We have written to Pakistan government they have not responded," he said.
