New Delhi: It is not enough to go slow on your energy consumption at home. You can be smart and ‘go green’ even when on the go.
Here are some tips on how to become economical and eco-friendly, not to mention save fuel while you are driving:
- Stop unnecessarily revving your car as that could damage the engine, consume more petrol and wear out the tyres.
- Speeding sacrifices mileage by 30 per cent but cruising on top gear within city speed limits boosts fuel efficiency by 20 per cent. Cut down on clutch driving because that way you will pay a lot less at the gas station.
- Switch your engine off at traffic jams as doing that saves fuel and curbs pollution.
- A poorly tuned engine not only spews carbon dioxide but also boosts the fuel consumption by almost 50 per cent. Hence regular maintainence of your car is essential.
- And last but not least, check your tyre pressure because having a correct tyre pressure makes your ride safer.
Also, it is advisable not to switch off the engine at short stops because if you do so, then you can actually increase the fuel consumption of your car. And when you restart that car it uses twice the amount of fuel it uses while idling.
