New Delhi: Congress leader and former external affairs minister Natwar Singh's troubles may not be over yet.
A relative of his and a Congress MLA from Punjab is now being probed for compromising national security.
Aditya Khanna, NRI businessman and a relative of Natwar Singh, is in the dock after the Justice R S Pathak Commission found him guilty of receiving payoffs in Oil-for-Food scam.
But now another member of the Khanna family and Congress MLA from Sangrur, Arvind Khanna, is under scrutiny on charges of compromising national security.
It was the Volcker scam that threw up the names of Vipin Khanna, known to be an arms dealer, and Aditya Khanna.
CNN-IBN has details of a circular by the Ministry of Defence to the top brass in the forces that has put the Khannas under the scanner.
"The Ministry is in receipt of information through official agencies that persons by the names of Vipin Khanna, Aditya Khanna and Arvind Khanna and certain companies which they are associated with have been involved in the introduction of products of arms manufacturers to both India and Pakistan. The information is of immediate concern. All necessary action be taken to fully safeguard India's security interests. The people and companies they represent be denied access to any defence personnel and facility," the Defence Secretary says.
The letter and the charges are a cause for considerable concern and could raise a political storm because they bring a sitting Congress MLA Arvind Khanna under scrutiny on charges of compromising national security.
The Ministry of Defence has confirmed the circulation of the note but refrained from making any further comments.
And for the UPA government, that is already facing questions on going soft on terror and internal security after the Mumbai serial blasts, the blacklisting of a sitting Congress MLA from Punjab could be even more embarrassing.
