Bangalore: The BJP has decided to pitch in its high profile leader and party general secretary Arun Jaitley as its chief ministerial candidate from Delhi in the forthcoming assembly elections.
Sources told CNN IBN that the proposal is being pushed by the BJP president Rajnath Singh and is being seen as part of the rivalries within the top BJP leadership.
The party's prime ministerial candidate LK Advani is learnt to have raised the issue with Mr Jaitley who has reportedly rejected the offer to be projected as a chief ministerial candidate from the national capital.
Presently, Mr Jaitley is handling the election management for the BJP in several key states and being limited to Delhi could reduce his responsibilities within the party.
When asked if he wants to contest for the election, Jaitley said "I have always been active in national politics. It's for the party to decide our candidate. I am in no position to comment on that"
However, Senior BJP leader BJP Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has indicated that the party may fight the Delhi assembly elections without a Chief Ministerial candidate.
“Some time we announce the CM for the assembly polls and often we don't. It is not a priority for BJP,” Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.
The BJP national executive meet began on Friday in Bangalore, the party aims to discuss on issues like price rise, terrorism and internal security.
That apart, the party will also try to evolve consensus on the nuclear deal, especially after the NSG waiver because not too many are ready to buy the BJP logic that national sovereignty has been compromised.
Advani's Vijay Sankalp Yatra itinerary would also be finalized. The political yatra is aimed at highlighting the failures of the UPA government.
