New Delhi: Two months after taking over the Arushi murder case, the CBI may have to let all those charge-sheeted go free - for lack of evidence.
What is shocking is that the CBI is still clueless about who killed Arushi Talwar. Two months of investigation packed in and with 48 hours left to file a chargesheet - the CBI is still unprepared.
Reliable sources confirmed to CNN-IBN that the newly appointed director of the country's premier agency is yet to give his go ahead in filing the charge sheet.
It is understood that he is still not fully confident of having enough evidence to nail the accused.
And the accused will benefit from the lack of evidence.
With time, the case appears to have gotten weaker. Here are the hurdles before the CBI.
Challenges before the CBI
- 4 arrests: two on bail and two in judicial custody
- No evidence against Dr. Rajesh Talwar and Vijay Mandal
- What was the real motive? Was murder pre-planned?
- Was Hemraj involved in the planning?
- Who was the real target?
- Why was Hemraj eliminated?
Of the four men arrested, two are already out on bail. Dr. Rajesh Talwar - once the prime accused has almost got a clean chit. The CBI had said that Vijay Mandal had confessed to the crime. Shockingly, only a week ago, he too walked out on bail due to lack of evidence.
The CBI has not confirmed if they think the murder was premeditated. So what was the real motive?
The CBI had once suggested that Hemraj asked Krishna to bring a khukri with him. If so, who was the real target? If Hemraj was involved, why then did he oppose the men when they assaulted Aarushi?
The only thing that could help the CBI is the blood soaked t-shirt of Rajkumar, on the basis of which he was arrested.
After the Noida police's inefficient handling of the case, the pressure is on the CBI to perform. But time is running out.
