Noida rape: Boy confesses, Panchayat says not guilty
New Delhi: Four days after the CBI took over the investigation of the gruesome murders of Noida-based Arushi Talwar and her family's manservant, Hemraj, the main accused — her father Dr Rajesh Talwar — is now in judicial custody.
For experts, this means the CBI could well have no evidence against him and it remains a whodunit. But for politicians, it's just another opportunity for oneupmanship and at the job are two warring ladies — Union Women & Child Development Minister, Renuka Chaudhary and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mayawati.
Upsetting Renuka Chaudhary is Mayawati's top police official, then IG Meerut Zone, Gurdarshan Singh who had said at a press conference — soon after Dr Rajesh Talwar was arrested — that Rajesh Talwar had seen Arushi in an "objectionable position with Hemraj".
Renuka Chaudhary has shot off a notice to the Noida Police to explain their denigrating remarks. The National Commission for Protection of Child's Rights — which had sent a notice some time ago — is yet to receive a reply from the police.
However, that's clearly not enough. Renuka Chaudhury now wants the ex-IG of the Meerut zone to pologise and then to be suspended.
"Is transferring him enough of a punishment? That is no punishment. He may have got a plum posting now," says Chaudhury.
She even wants Mayawati to set her house in order when it comes to child rights and care. However, the Chief Minister is not bothered.
All Mayawati had to say on the subject was: "The CBI is investigating the case and so I don't want to comment on it.''
Its not yet legally established who Arushi and Hemraj's killers were. Already, the police have cast aspersions on her character as well as nature. For a 14-year-old who died in tragic circumstances, this certainly is no justice.
