Noida: Friday is a crucial day in the Arushi Talwar-Hemraj murder case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) custody of Rajkumar, one of the suspects in the double murder case, ends on Friday, as does the judicial custody of Arushi's father Dr Rajesh Talwar and another suspect Krishna.

But the Ghaziabad court, where the case is being heard, has adjourned proceedings till 1400 hrs IST pm as the CBI investigation officer has not been able to reach the court.

CBI sources tell us the agency has no material evidence in the case so far. The sources add that Vijay Mandal, a domestic help picked up from the Talwar neighbourhood, is likely to be arrested.

Arushi's father, Dr Talwar, might be freed or sent to judicial remand till the filing of the chargesheet on August 23.

It has been 40 days since CBI took over investigations in the Noida double murder case and even on Thursday efforts were on to get material evidences.

CBI officials went to the Talwar residence on Thursday and searched the terrace to look for possible clues like the murder weapon.

On June 28, CBI has sought 15 days custody of Rajkumar on the grounds that he had confessed to his crime and would lead the agency to crucial evidence like the murder weapon and the destroyed mobile phones.

But 15 days later there is no sign of the evidences.

It's the same argument which the CBI presented in court on June 14 when Krishna's custody was sought. Krishna has since been subjected to all kinds of scientific tests and has been in judicial custody for 14 days now.

Yet the question - who was killed first Arushi or Hemraj - remains.

CBI said Krishna's narco analysis led to Rajkumar's arrest. But the agency stopped short of revealing if it was Krishna who committed the murder or Rajkumar.

Rajkumar was also subjected to narco analysis twice in the last two weeks yet the picture remains as fuzzy as before.

Sources say the CBI is now depending heavily on the forensic report of Rajkumar's t-shirt, which allegedly had human blood. The agency suspects the blood could be that of Hemraj's or Arushi's.

Meanwhile CBI has been questioning Mandal, domestic help of a neighbour of the Talwar's for the past 15 days. So is he the fourth suspect in the case?

Where does that leave the initial suspect Dr Talwar? Why is he still behind bars?

CBI had opposed his bail plea saying they are investigating if he was the fourth person involved in the murder.

But a month and a half since he was arrested there seems to be no evidence to implicate him.

Friday would probably be the most significant day in the case so far when all three accused Dr Talwar, Krishna and Rajkumar would come face to face in the court for the first time.

Will CBI finally tell the court what evidence their month and a half long investigations have yielded? Or will it continue to be a case of whodunit?
