Noida rape: Boy confesses, Panchayat says not guilty
New Delhi: It's a murder case that captured the imagination of a nation like never before, so a botch-up in the investigation by the Noida Police led to the country's apex investigating agency taking over the Arushi-Hemraj murder probe.
But now it seems that even the CBI has messed up the investigations. They have no evidence to file charges against the three accused, despite announcing just about a month ago that the Noida double murder case was almost solved. However, all proof the CBI has is based on scientific tests that cannot be presented as evidence in court.
Embarrassed senior officers of the CBI refused to address the media and instead sent out a DIG - who is not even associated with the case - to read out a prepared statement.
CBI DIG, Neerja Gotru said, "Investigations will continue and CBI will file a case under Section 173 of the CrPC only on conclusion of the investigation."
In July, CBI's Joint Director Arun Kumar accused the Talwars' compounder, Krishna, the domestic help of the Talwars' friends the Durannis, Rajkumar, and the domestic help of their neighbour, Vijay Mandal, of the crime, on the basis of narco analysis tests, of the murders
"They had all gathered in Hemraj's room. They consumed alcohol and discussed Arushi. They then entered Arushi's room and first hit her with a hard blunt object," Arun Kumar had said then.
Now the CBI is looking for outside help to solve the case.
Neerja Gotru said, "A letter surrogatory, which is a letter of request, is being sent to Nepal seeking assistance in locating some witnesses and mobile phones of the deceased. An award of Rs 1 lakh has been announced to anyone giving further clues."
While one of the three accused - Vijay Mandal - is already out on bail, the other two - Krishna and Rajkumar - are also expected to be freed on bail and this might end up as one of the biggest unsolved murder mysteries in the country.
Meanwhile, Arushi's father, Dr Rajesh Talwar reiterated his faith in the CBI saying: "We have full faith in the CBI and we hope that they keep on investigating, they find the culprits and we get justice for our daughter."
Arushi's mother, Dr Nupur Talwar added, "I feel that there is justice somewhere. It's been such a terrible crime that I don't think God can let a person get away with what he has done. I am quite certain and I know my God is there. I pray to him day in and day out and I have faith in my God. I'm certain that the person would not be out for long."
