New Delhi: Mclaren will contest against the decision by the race stewards not to impose any penalty on Williams and BMW Sauber teams over alleged fuel irregularities.
Brazilian Grand Prix stewards decided not to take action against the two teams despite a report from the FIA technical delegate. The technical delegate stated temperatures of fuel samples taken from both cars of each team were outside the regulations.
Nico Rosberg of Williams' finished fourth while BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld took the fifth and sixth spots.
If McLaren win the appeal and the fourth, fifth and sixth placed teams get disqualified then Lewis Hamilton will move up to the fourth spot, giving him enough points to win the world title.
However, till the appeal is heard Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen can celebrate his first-ever F1 drivers’ world title. Ferrari also won the constructors' title.
When the Brazilian Grand Prix started at the Interlagos circuit, Ferrari's Felipe Massa pulled ahead and came right in front of Hamilton, blocking him and giving his teammate enough time to take advantage.
The next move was made by Fernando Alonso as he crowded his McLaren teammate and overtook him.
Hamilton tried to repeat the favour but then his machine gave way but he resumed at 13th position.
Things looked good for local hero Massa as he looked for an encore of last year even as Raikkonen kept his second place with Alonso, too, clearly out of his elements and fluctuating between the third and fourth position.
Raikkonen's pitstop was quicker and he came out ahead of his teammate to lead the race.
But Hamilton was not ready to give up and fought his way up till the seventh position. All he had to do was finish the race in sixth place and he would have re-written history.
But Raikkonen was determined to lay his hands on the Drivers' title and pocketed it winning the Brazilian Grand Prix.
