Mumbai: Legendary singers Asha Bhosle and Ghulam Ali first came together in 1985 for a ghazal album called Miraaj-E-Ghazal.
Now the duo is collaborating on another album to popularize ghazals amongst youngsters.
"His (Ghulam Ali) singing is quite quirky. He needs rehearsals,” jokes Asha.
He is the maestro of ghazals, and she the diva of popular Indian music.
And now they are mixing talents for the second time on an album courtesy Ghulam Ali's musician son, Amir. And the youngster is not sure whom to be more awestruck by.
"It's more than an album, it's a dream for me. I'm her fan. I'm very happy,” says Amir.
His yet to-be-named album, a mix of classical ghazal, and light-hearted songs, has the stamp of approval from both stalwarts.
“Everyone will appreciate and like this music,” assures Ghulam Ali. “These songs are for today's youngsters. They are a mix of ghazals and songs. I just felt like doing them,” says Asha.
And it was no mean task for Amir to convince the two perfectionists to collaborate with him, even if one of them was his father.
“Even if I am his son, I cannot convince him to do something he doesn't want to do," admits Amir.
But Ghulam Ali acknowledges that the album is a piece of good work. “He is my son and he is an extention of me,” he says.
So watch out for the album, which releases next month, with some of it’s videos being shot in Mauritius.
