New Delhi: The preparations for Bollywood’s biggest wedding of the year are in full swing.

As the golden couple Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan set to tie the knot, the actress's mother Vrinda Rai has performed a special puja at Nagabana in Sonthady near Kasargod, her birthplace.

The puja was performed on Thursday morning in keeping with the traditions of Tulunadu culture.

A close relative of Aishwarya was quotedby news agency PTI as saying that the puja is an annual affair.

The relative added that all the members of the family except the going-to-be Bachchan bahu took part in the ceremony.

Aishwarya's father Krishnarajendra Rai, who came from Mumbai on Friday morning, performed puja in the temple of Dharmasthala.

Abhishek and Aishwarya got engaged at a quiet ceremony in Mumbai on January 14. The engagement came about one-and- half-months after the couple, accompanied by Amitabh Bachchan, wife Jaya, daughter Shweta Nanda and family friend Amar Singhoffered prayers at the Sankat Mochan temple Varanasi temple.

All eyes turned to Bangalore when Aishwarya's family astrologer Chandrashekhara Swami, based in Mulky, was consulted on the alliance as Rai had Kuja dosha.
