New Delhi: Dr Maqbool Ahmed, a Bangalore resident, has told the police that the man being treated for severe burns in a hospital in UK is his son.
The British police allege Kafeel Ahmed, 27, is the terrorist who rammed a flaming Jeep Cherokee into a terminal at the Glasgow international airport on June 30.
Kafeel, who was first mistaken for Khalid Ahmed, a doctor from Lebanon, has a PhD. in aeronautical engineering and studied at Queen’s University in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Anglia Polytechnic University in Cambridge, England.
Dr Maqbool has told police that he identified his son from pictures of the suicide bomber shown on TV. Sabeel Ahmed, who worked as doctor in England and is believed to be Kafeel’s younger brother, is under detention.
The third Indian detained in connection with the terrorist plot in Britain is Hameed Haneef. He was detained at the Brisbane airport in Australia on Monday and worked at the Gold Coast Hospital in Queensland.
Haneef is believed to be a cousin of the Ahmed brothers and worked with Sabeel at Halton Hospital in Runcorn, England.
Bilal Abdulla, an Iraqi doctor who was allegedly Khaleel’s co-passenger on June 30, has been charged with "maliciously" conspiring to cause explosions. He is the first person to be charged in connection with the failed terrorist conspiracy in on London and Glasgow.
In all, eight suspects have been taken into custody and most had worked for Britain's health service.
