Bangalore: With the New Year round the corner, Bangalore residents have some bad news their way. Milk just became more expensive in Bangalore.
The Karnataka milk federation decided to increase milk and curd prices by two rupees per litre. The reason behind the move was to pass on the profits from this hike, to needy farmers. However noble this thought may be, but the hike has meant that Bangalore consumers are loosening their pockets and hotel owners are cashing in.
“This price hike is inevitable. Hotels which were charging rupees 5 or 6 for coffee, now charge Rs 7 or 8,” says Vasudev Adiga, President, Banglaore Hotels Association.
The effect may not just be on your daily cups of tea and coffee, a frequent dig into that yummy cup of ice-cream could also come down.
“Ice-cream industry may be affected more because their consumption is more,” says Vasudev Adiga.
However, for foodies, a hike or no hike, it seems difficult giving up on food or eating out.
“Whatever prices have gone up, people are coming and eating,” says Geeta R Customer.
Bangalore's always been known for its by-two culture where one cup of tea is shared by two people. However, soon it may be a by-three or by-four, where one cup of tea may be sipped by four people.
