New Delhi: CNN-IBN's Citizen Journalist initiative has seen some top-notch journalism over the last nine months.
And now you may even have a bigger incentive to be a citizen journalist, as CNN and CNN-IBN are launching the Citizen Journalist Award.
"The intention is to recognise journalism by non-professionals as well, recognition in terms of what citizens have done,” CNN, senior international correspondent, Satinder Bindra says.
You can participate if you're Indian citizen, if you are over 18 and if you are not a professional or freelance journalist.
The winners will be chosen from entries aired on CNN-IBN between January 1 and September 30 this year.
The chosen one will win a trophy, a cash prize of twenty thousand rupees and a digital camera to keep the action going.
“We think that citizen journalism is a concept that can in some way empower the citizens. To make the citizens feel part of the news gathering process has always been our conscious effort,” says CNN-IBN, Editor-in-Chief, Rajdeep Sardesai.
CNN is also accepting entries for its Young Journalist of the Year Award and a new category open to students of journalism called the Aspiring Journalist Award.
So if you haven't already been a part of our Citizen Journalist initiative, maybe this bit of news will make you pick the camera up.
