New Delhi: AC Milan playmaker Ronaldinho has given his endorsement to David Beckham's forthcoming switch to San Siro by describing the former England captain as a 'champion' with 'class'.
The pair's careers followed a similar trajectory in 2003; while Beckham moved from Manchester United to the Bernabeu, Ronaldinho completed his switch from PSG to Barcelona.
After varying degrees of success, Beckham less so than Ronaldinho, the duo departed Spain and the Englishman wound up in Los Angeles with the Galaxy of the MLS.
Meanwhile, Ronaldinho sought to put his stuttering form back on track by accepting a move to the Brazilian sanctuary at Milanello, where he was flanked by the likes of Dida, Kaka, Emerson and Alexandre Pato.
David Beckham however, has since decided that his international ambitions would be best served with a return to top-level European football and has accepted the challenge of playing for AC Milan.
Ronaldinho is delighted that Beckham will finally be a teammate, even if it means free-kick duties will be disputed.
He is quoted by The Sun as saying: "He's a great champion. I hope he's happy with us. We'll take turns taking free kicks. I've met him in the past and I have always been struck by his class."
