Pune: Superstar Amitabh Bachchan has now made a U-turn after donating land to Pune farmers in July, last year.

The Big B had offered to surrender his 20.5 acre plot of land in 2007 when his claim to being a farmer had been questioned.

“I received a letter from him that he wants to withdraw his decision of surrendering this land,” said the Sub-Divisional Officer of Maval Taluka, Sanjaysinh Chavan.

In the letter, Bachchan stated:

"I, myself, as karta (head of the family) and on behalf of my son, Abhishek, request you to kindly treat the matter closed. We realise that our action and interaction to surrender the land in favour of the erstwhile owners was based on utterly wrong premises. We, therefore, unconditionally withdraw the said letter send dated July 19, 2007."

In his letter to the Divisional Commissioner, Amitabh Bachchan has also expressed hope to end all controversies related to this land once he has withdrawn his offer of donating land.

His decision, however, has only caused more embarrassment for his status as an agricultural farmer remains undecided.

Bachchan had spent most of the last year fighting off allegations that he fraudulently claimed to be a farmer.

He was forced to surrender this land in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki, which has now been converted into a high school named after his daughter-in-law, Aishwarya. At that time, he had claimed to be a victim of political vendetta.

Now, with his friend Amar Singh courting the congress once again, Bachchan has had a change of heart – a coincidence hard to miss.
