IN SEARCH OF LEAD: Police have announced a reward of Rs 2.5 lakh for information leading to arrest of Om Prakash aka Bunty.
New Delhi: A group of youth riding motorcycles looted two shops in East Delhi at gunpoint on Wednesday.
Even after more than eight such cases in the past fortnight, police have no leads on the ‘biker gang’ yet. They claim the crime situation in Delhi is well under control.
“This year heinous crimes are down by 8.5 per cent and total IPC crimes are down by 12 per cent,” Delhi Police Commissioner YS Dadwal says.
However, in the last 15 days alone, nine cases of violent robberies were reported in the city.
Taking stock of the situation, Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit has summoned Delhi Police to look into the situation at the earliest.
“They said there aren't enough police stations near Delhi border. So we said let us know where all the stations are needed and we'll follow up on it,” she said.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal has announced a Rs 2.5-lakh reward for information leading to the arrest of five persons — Om Prakash aka Bunty, Rajesh Sharma, Nasir, Zakir, Mohammed and Shiv Om — who were allegedly involved in two of the shooting incidents.
The police have also released photos of other known members of his biker gang. Bunty himself is a hardened criminal, who is wanted for robbery, assault and 23 cases of murder.
