New Delhi: Shahid Bilal, the alleged mastermind of the Hyderabad twin blasts, was indeed killed by ISI in Karachi on August 30, Indian Intelligence agencies have confirmed.

Confirming the reports in Pakistani media, Intelligence sources said Bilal was shot dead because he had overstepped his brief.

However, Andhra Pradesh Police chief M A Basith said on Thursday that there is no confirmation about the killing of Bilal in a gun battle in Pakistan.

"We have no information about it," Basith told PTI.

According to Pakistani reports, Bilal was killed by two motorcycle-borne men. He was shot at point blank range near Gulburg Churangi, also known as Golimar Churangi in Karachi.

Security agencies have been on the lookout for Bilal, a resident of Moosarambagh in Hyderabad, since 2003.

He is believed to have links with several militant groups, including the Harkat-ul-Jihad Islami (HuJI).

He was chief of HuJI's operations in South India and his name cropped up during investigations into several terrorist strikes, including a suicide attack on the police

commissioner's task force office in Hyderabad in 2005, the blast in the Mecca Masjid and the recent twin bombings.

He has also been linked to the smuggling of 10 kg of RDX from Bangladesh in February this year.
