New Delhi: BJP President Rajnath Singh on Tuesday accepted the resignation of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Babulal Marandi as the party's vice president and primary member.
Marandi resigned from the party posts and as the BJP’s sole Lok Sabha MP from Jharkhand last week to protest against corruption and poor development in the state.
Marandi, who held a 24-hour fast before announcing his resignation, may launch his own political outfit. In his resignation letter to Singh, Marandi said he was disappointed with the NDA Government in Jharkhand and the national BJP leaders.
The BJP had tried to woo Marandi by sending former union minister Yashwant Sinha and Rajya Sabha MP Devidas Apte to Ranchi.
Marandi’s resignation letter has reached Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, but rules require that he personally explains it.
