New Delhi: The Congress and the BJP were expected to speak against terrorism after the blasts in Jaipur on Tuesday. They are but more against each other.

"The Centre’s intelligence reports are like weather reports," Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje told CNN-IBN. Raje’s statement shows the lack of coordination between intelligence agencies at the Central and state-levels.

Raje, of course, is only pursuing the agenda that has been set by her party. The BJP wants to portray the UPA government as weak and the Prime Minister as a man just not tough enough.

Senior BJP leader L K Advani on Wednesday demanded that the Centre bring back the draconian Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA).

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh rejected the demand the same day. "The attack on Parliament and Akshardham took place when POTA was in force. There is no dearth of law in the country to deal with terrorism," he said.

Gujarat’s BJP Chief Minister Narendra Modi added to the debate by demanding a joint meeting of all chief ministers to deal with internal security.

The BJP is making these demands to create the impression of being decisive—a strategy that is not lost on the UPA leadership.
