New Delhi: The Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dixit has got herself into a knot over her remarks on migrants from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar who flock to the capital.

However, she had to eat humble pie over the words she never thought would spark off such a furore.

“I sincerely regret and extend my apology for this unfortunate happening,” says Dixit.

Her remarks led to dramatic protests in Parliament only to culminate with Speaker Somnath Chatterjee adjourning the house till Friday.

The BJP seemed in no mood to let go of this golden opportunity. Protest were organised in Patna and in Delhi demanding Dixit’s resignation.

“We feel it is an insult to the 18 crore people living in UP, 12 crore people living in Bihar and 1.61 crore people living in Delhi,” says Delhi BJP Chief, Dr Harshvardhan.

“He is also from UP herself. To turn around and say that I am facing trouble is absolutely unconstitutional and it is unpardonable,” says BJP MP, Bihar, Kirti Azad.

Maybe her apology lets the debate die out and not simmer to boil over another day.
