New Delhi: The Ghost of Godhra has reared its ugly head again as electioneering gains steam in Gujarat.

Local newspapers, on Wednesday, carried advertisements on Godhra put out by the BJP. The ads accuse the Congress-led Centre of coming to the aid of the Godhra accused, by instituting its own inquiry into the 2002 Sabarmati Express fire, which was followed by widespread riots.

These ads are a part of Modi’s ‘Jeetega Gujarat’ campaign,

Spearheading BJP's poll campaign, Chief Minister Narendra Modi, seen at the centre of it all, had so far shied away from using the Godhra card.

“The Gujarat elections are unique as no political party or media or NGOs have set the agenda for elections,” Modi told reporters, adding, “the agenda has been set by Gujarat’s 5.5 crore populace and they want progress and development.”

The publication of the Ads coincided with Modi filing his nomination papers. .
