New Delhi: BJP’s win in Gujarat is a turning point in national politics, said senior party leader LK Advani on Sunday when BJP was just at kissing distance of a two-thirds majority in the 182-member state Assembly.

“The BJP’s victory in Gujarat has shown that the people in the state have disapproved of political defections and also inner-party dissent amounting to indiscipline and defection,” Advani said.

Saying the party’s win was a victory against politics of vilification, negativism and arrogance, he emphasized that the BJP in Gujarat had disproved that elections could be won only by appealing to people’s caste and community sentiments.

The win in Gujarat signalled BJP "comeback as the frontrunner in the next parliamentary elections", Advani added.

"I sincerely thank the people of Gujarat for reposing their faith, yet again, in the BJP. I also heartily congratulate the state unit of the party, and, in particular, Gujarat's dynamic and highly popular Chief Minister Narendra Modi for scoring a resounding victory," IANS reported Advani as saying.

“Modi has disproved the conventional ‘wisdom’ that good governance does not make good politics. He has disproved that elections cannot be won on a development plank,” Advani said.

“I expect a similar performance from Himachal Pradesh as well,” he added.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is now all set to return to power in the state for a third time. The Congress has conceded defeat but says the BJP has no role in Modi's victory. Modi will be sworn in as Chief Minister on December 27.
