New Delhi: Two CRPF jawans have been injured in a grenade attack in the Karan Nagar Area of Srinagar, just minutes before the crucial trust vote for the state government.

Suspected militants lobbed grenades at a CRPF bunker, just a kilometer away from Lal Chowk, and then started firing from automatic weapons at the makeshift camp.

The site of the guerrilla attack is half a kilometre away from the state legislature complex and the Assembly was in session as Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad was seeking a vote of confidence for his government.

The Congress-led government was reduced to a minority after its largest alliance partner, the Peoples Democratic Party, withdrew from the coalition last week. The PDP withdrew protesting the transfer of government land to the Amarnath Shrine Board.

The state has been tense over the Amarnath forestland transfer row for many days now.

The transfer order was revoked last week, but instead of reducing the tension, it triggered another wave of protests in Jammu.

Meanwhile, the Congress has been desperately trying to cobble together enough suppport to stay afloat. Sources say money is changing hands and those who aid the Congress have been promised various projects.
