Karnataka: Bangalore has long been the favourite of global tech companies, but now, it's also fast becoming a favourite destination for foreigners wanting to work in India.

It's the ultimate workplace address in India and for many foreigners, a little Bangalore experience goes a long way.

Jez Humble was working with a multinational firm in Britain before he joined Thoughtworks in Bangalore as a trainer.

And he came to India because: "I love India. I have a keen interest in the people, in the language and the cuisine. And also because a lot of the work these days is here."

Companies such as Infosys and Thoughtworks already train their foreign recruits here and many of them stay on.

Says Infosys employee, Syed Imran Haider, "This is the future and I want to be here."

Most expats prefer Bangalore to other Indian cities because it offers more job opportunities. Besides, Bangalore offers many people a chance to start their own ventures. It's a tough market and a steep learning curve.

"When you come to Bangalore, you do have to change the way you work and change the way you think about things. And that's a positive thing," says Jez Humble.

Bangalore is home to over 2,000 expats and more than 100 of them hold key positions in the IT, BPO and retail sectors. And they stay on, long after the charm of the outsourcing boom has faded.
