Penguin India to publish Amit Chaudhuri's works

New Delhi: In what is a landmark acquisition, Penguin Books India has acquired the Indian subcontinent rights to publish the acclaimed author Amit Chaudhuri's works. Penguin will be bringing out all his new writings, in addition to publishing the backlist.
The first book by Amit Chaudhuri to be published by Penguin will be on Calcutta, which would be one of the most important non-fiction titles that Penguin will release next year.Speaking on this wonderful acquisition, Chiki Sarkar, Editor-in-chief Penguin India says, "Amit Chaudhuri is one of our finest writers and one of the best known and most critically acclaimed of Indian writers writing in English. He is the author of the five highly acclaimed novels. The first, A Strange and Sublime Address won the Commonwealth Writers' Prize and Betty Trask Award and the second, Afternoon Raag (1993), won the Society of Authors' Encore Prize for best second novel and the Southern Arts Literature Prize. Both books were shortlisted for the Guardian Fiction Prize. The others such as Freedom Song (Los Angeles Times Book Prize), A New World (Sahitya Akademi Award), and most recently The Immortals have also received favourable reviews. He has also edited the influential Picador Book of Modern Indian Literature, and has been the recipient of several national and international awards.With Amit Chaudhuri joining its distinguished list of authors, Penguin now publishes virtually every major fiction and non-fiction Indian author writing in English today.An internationally recognized Indian English author and critic, Amit is currently the Professor of Contemporary Literature at the University of East Anglia, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
