Hyderabad: Three years and 13 murders later, the Hyderabad police claim to have finally arrested a serial killer whose victims were all women.
Sivaratri Anjaiah, a 40-year-old daily wage labourer, allegedly had an extra-marital affair with a woman named Lakshmi, who was “unfaithful” to him. An angry Anjaiah, police say, developed a deep aversion to women.
Aversion turned into a killing spree and 13 women in working in toddy compounds became his victims. Anjaiah would allegedly lure women to secluded spots, rape and then kill them by strangling them and bashing their faces in with a boulder.
The police detected a pattern in the selection of victims. A special team kept vigil at toddy compounds and labour addas till Anjaiah was finally nabbed.
Anjaiah, upon interrogation, confessed to the crime. But strangely, he expected the police to release him once he apologised for his deeds.
“I was in a drunken state. It was a mistake. I will not do it again,” he said upon arrest.
