Dr. T. Srinivasan Those who sell private information without written consent for commercial purposes should be punished severly under protection of privacy rules. Big business establishments like - banking, insurance, credit card companies, share brokers and mutual fund prometers, loan promoters are often hand-in-gloves in this practice and they should be punished FIRST to stop this evil.

venky It would be naive to think that call center operators are responsible for such large scale theft of data. The theft here is done by system admistrators/ data base admins who have full access to the data as well as know how to cover their trails

Arun Covering the 'people' aspect of security effectively is virtually impossible considering the fact that each and every individual is different, and curtailing an individuals freedom at the workplace is aggrevating the problem.
Whistle blowing policies are usually not fool-proof, a suggestion would be setting up a central Information Security organization which acts on such complaints against people and companies.
In this whole incident in my personal opinion its the media in both countries who seem to have gained, neither the clients nor the Indian BPO companies nor the employees.

Manikandan In some BPO they are recording and monitoring the calls if that is practised in all with ethical training .I beleive this will not happen again.

Ratan K.Datta Give ethical training to whom? Let the BPO Companies give up few things-

-- the recruitment Agents

-- Get a new set of HR guys.

Both these groups have failed very badly. First get the antyecedents of the people checked. The present set up will not give any thing.
If all Call Centre employees lead life which they are currently then the money they get are not often adequate.
I know of Company in Kolkata who has been doing such work for last 15 - 20 years who employed women from middle class, who needed the job. They took the Company transport and go home after the shift. they were not conditioned to feel the necessity of going to a Pub or a Disco to "unwind" or "let their hair down". Those girls proabbaly would not know what these really mean. They do not have need for extra money and no compulsion to cheat. Nasscom instaed of seeing "foreign hands" should have investigated each of the crooks caught to know the profile of the persons. That would tell whom to recruit and whom should be fired.
If they follow the same route there will be many more cases Exposures. I am sure there are many more which not been exposed. Please think .

more Dr Atreja It is a matter of concern for every body to note that such a shameful incidents are occuring. When employees do just these things for earning a few bucks, they are trying to axe on their feet and their brethern, who are trying to find jobs. The BPOs in India are offering lucrative jobs to Indians. It is true that developed countries are also saving the cost on hiring man power. The financial security of the people regarding the credit card or operation of bank accouns is very important for the clients or individuals. once the security lapses are there. The people will lose faith and many people will face unemployment. God may give wisdom to managers and employees of such BPOs to look into the seriousness of the issues involved.
