New Delhi: The nuclear deal storm brewing for past few days has quietened down after the chilling inflation figure of 11.05 was announced on Saturday.

It seems that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s focus has also changed a little. While External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee is in Australia, the Left leaders too have taken a break from the politics over the nuclear deal.

Nulear ceasefire is expected to last few days because the government's principal troubleshooter Pranab Mukherjee has taken a short breather.

His visit to Australia is not about buying Australian uranium, which in any case they won't sell, as India is not an NPT member. However, it will be an opportunity to gauge how Canberra could move in the Nuclear Suppliers Group in case the nuclear deal comes up there and assess how Australia's opening up to China could impact on India.

Not only Pranab but key Left decision-makers Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechury are also out of Delhi for a couple of days. Meanwhile, it seems that the positions haven't really changed from Friday.

“It's neither worsened nor improved,” says Pranab.

For the time being, it's nuclear status quo, but the allies are slowly drifting back to where they were before the latest crisis, they prefer elections next year.
