PLAN CHANGED? Paris had informed India that Bruni would be accompanying Sarkozy for the Republic Day parade.
New Delhi: With the French President Nicholas Sarkozy invited to be the chief guest at the Republic Day parade and Paris informing South Block that his girlfriend Carla Bruni would accompany him, South Block was in a dilemma because the rules were only clear about VIP spouses who are clearly state guests.
There was much debate regarding her visit. There were also sources saying that Bruni was not figured in the first list of delegates sent by Paris. Other sources had indicated she would not be coming.
However, Bruni has told a French daily Liberation in an interview published on Tuesday that she is not coming to India.
“I cannot take part in an official visit with the President,” the paper quoted her as saying.
She also denied reports of her marriage to Sarkozy. “We're not yet married, we are planning to,” she told the daily. But she gave no details.
Bruni, who is a successful singer, said she would begin recording her next album in February.
